Tarah Korir (Ba. Exercise Science), KKFC director, first visited Kenya as part of a medical mission trip while attending the University of Louisville, Kentucky, on a track scholarship. This is where she met, her husband Wesley Korir (Boston 2012 Champion and former MP for Cherangany Constituency, Kenya.)
Tarah was a very successful track athlete in high school and in the NCAA. After graduating from the University of Louisville, she earned a Bronze medal in the 5000m at the 2012 Canadian Track & Field Championships and Olympic Trials. She has represented Canada on many occasions at various world championship events. Tarah’s best Half Marathon, 72:04, was achieved at the IAAF World Half Marathon championships in Cardiff, England in March 2016. Two months later she was the top Canadian, 5th overall, at the Ottawa Marathon in a time of 2:35:46. She also represented Canada in the Marathon in the summer of 2017 at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in London England.
Wesley, Tarah and their three children live in Kenya. Tarah enjoys training in Cherangany – the video below was taken in March 2015 on a long run with Tarah. The music, “Come Walk with Me“, was written by Tarah’s aunt Marion for Wesley and Tarah’s wedding.
Tarah speaks fluent Swahili. This has allowed her to develop a close relationship with, and earn the respect of many Kenyan people.
