joined the Kenyan Kids Foundation Canada (KKFC) in 2014 as part of the inaugural team of directors.
Karen is passionate about agriculture and how it can be used to empower and engage families in the developing world towards self-sufficiency. Karen brings a wealth of knowledge and past experience to the board. She is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and has a MSc in Capacity and Rural Development. As part of her studies, Karen spent periods of 2006-2007 living and working in Inner Mongolia helping small landholder dairy farms improve their milk quality.
Karen lives near Atwood, Ontario with her husband, Steve Dolson who is the Vice Chair of Gay Lea Foods. Karen and Steve have been dairy farming together since 1985.
They have two grown children, Jordan and Scott.
Karen is incredibly active in her local, agricultural, and church communities. She has been involved with 4H, the Atwood Presbyterian Church board (2000-2005), the Perth Dairy Producers Committee (2000-2006), and has helped to organize the dairy portion of the International Plowing Match (2013) and the ice cream booth at the Listowel Agricultural Fair (2008-2013).
Karen has served as a director and past chair (1994-2012) of Trillium Mutual Insurance in Listowel, Ontario. Through Big Brothers Big Sisters, she has been a Big Sister for the past five years. In her spare time (which we’re not convinced exists), Karen enjoys horses, travel, quilts, and continuous learning.
