“Kennections” Program

KKFC provides scholarships to impoverished student athletes in Cherangany Kenya. In addition to obtaining a high school education, these students attend our Transcend Running Academy, receiving athletic training and coaching which allows them to compete at a very high level in track and cross country running. A number of our Transcend graduates have earned full running scholarships to colleges and universities in the United States where they have achieved considerable success. (see https://www.kenyankidsfoundation.ca/grads )

Our “Kennections” program provides an opportunity for these students to connect with volunteers in Canada and the USA. The goal of the program is to improve academic skills and proficiency in spoken English. We are looking for volunteers willing to participate in a weekly half hour zoom meeting with two of our students.

In the video below, University of Waterloo Prof. Heidi Engelhardt provides a brief overview of the program, followed by some highlights of a recent Zoom conversation with two of our Form 4 (grade 12) Kenyan students, Faith and Nixon. If you are interested in volunteering for this project, please email info@kenyankidsfoundation.ca and mention “Kennections” in the subject line. Thanks.
